The Kaleidoscope School opened as a Montessori Pre-School in January 2006. The school is set in the country community of Nestpark Agricultural Holdings, near Bapsfontein, Gauteng East. The property of the school has been rezoned by the Ekurhuleni Municipality for use as a school.

The Principal of the School, Carol Gardner, who has resided in the area since 1995, realized the need for a school in the area for two reasons:

  • Firstly, the closest primary school is approximately 20km away. There are many young families with children either in, or moving into Nestpark Agricultural Holdings, who do not not wish to or cannot afford to travel 20km every day to take their children to school. For this reason, the school fees have been kept as low as possible. Considering that it is a small private school, the fees are well below those of other private schools in the surrounding areas of Benoni and Pretoria.
  • Secondly, there were a number of previously disadvantaged families who want good schooling for their children. The closest school, other than Kaleidoscope, has forty or more pupils per class and therefore they question the standard of education for their children. These parents have seen a significant increase in the level of schooling their children are now receiving as a result of being at Kaleidoscope School.

The Primary School (Grades R to 7) was registered in 2008 by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

In 2015 the school commenced with the Impaq (Pty) Ltd curriculum up to Grade 12. The curriculum is CAPS+ and the books are supplied in a choice of English or Afrikaans, eBooks are also an option.

Grades 10 - 12 are registered with SACAI. Final Grade 12 NCS Examinations are written.

The school is set in a tranquil, secure country garden where the children are free to experience nature and discover themselves in relation to plants and animals. There is an animal farmyard including geese, ducks and chickens among other animals. The school garden won third place in the Ekurhuleni Garden Competition 2008.

The children grow up in a caring, disciplined environment, where they love to come to school and learning is fun.

There is currently a sponsorship arrangement for children.

The school is growing as the community of Nestpark Agricultural Holdings and the surrounding area expands. The growth of the community has a direct impact on the School as follows:

The school is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The parents have been involved in previous Fund Raising for the School. Raffles, Market Day, Byron the Cheetah from the De Wildt Cheetah farm, and Spring Walk Sponsorships have brought in money to buy new equipment for the benefit of the children. A new classroom was built in 2015, accommodating a further 15 to 20 pupils.
